Summery
Here are some summery illustrations that I have been slow to post.
For STL at Home magazine. I did a handful of spots about what to do with your kids this summer and these were two of my favorites. These categories were road trips and science & exploration.
I did a bunch of spots of Seattle neighborhoods for Seattle Met. These are Capitol Hill and Ballard.
This one was for The Boston Globe magazine. The article was about how to deal with pests around the house. One of the suggestions was getting a bat house to eat up mosquitos.

Recent and not so recent work
One for Time out Chicago around Valentines day. A bar in Chicago hosts a mingling event for singles called "Post Office Thursdays." People get out of the text-message frame of mind to write potential suitors a cute note and place it in assigned mailboxes.
A map of places to visit in Trinidad of Trinidad and Tobago. For the Off Duty section of The Wall Street Journal.
This was an article about new teachers and how hard it if for them to keep a job in their first few years.

Pecha Kucha Night 11
I was asked to make the poster for Pecha Kucha Night by friend Logan Alexander. Pecha Kucha Night is a gathering where creatives get together and share ideas. I was told I could do whatever I want which is the best, but hardest assignment to be given. To narrow down the possibilities I started thinking about the kind of people the event brings. I think it attracts like-minded individuals who are looking to learn, grow and be inspired. Cats attracted to a giant bottle of milk seemed to go along with that thought!
Below is a little process. Once I knew what I was going to do I had to figure out how I was going to do it. Lots of scribbling before finding something I liked.
I was trying to figure out how I was going to draw the type and where I was going to put it while sketching.
I had to resist my urge to make everything warm and orange which is the case with a lot of my illustrations. The values were so similar and the big orange cat worked better on a complimentary background.
Just need to add type.
Final
Cleo makes a cameo.
I made an alternate version and replaced the logo on the bottle to send out as a postcard.

Washington Magazine
These were for Washington University's alumni magazine. The story was about distilling science and making it easier for people to understand. You can read about it here.
The cover. "Getting a Grasp on Science."
